But I Don’t Want To Be a Bridesmaid

Posted by Diva on July 30th, 2008

Q: My sister in law hasn’t asked me to be in her wedding but my mother in law told me that I’m in it. I don’t want to be a bridesmaid for a variety of reasons (the cost,
we aren’t that close, my age, and who is going to watch my children if both me and my husband are in the wedding?)

I just don’t have time for this kind of responsibility. I’d like to graciously decline but my mother in law already told my sister in law that I don’t want to be in the wedding.

Is there a way for me to politely get out of this, or do I suck it up and be the bigger person in the situation? HELP!

Avoid the Post-Wedding Blues

The wedding is over.

The gifts are unwrapped.

The thank you cards are sent.

Now what?

The post-wedding blues can hit you quickly if you aren’t careful. Here are some tips on how to avoid it.

ABC News says that one in ten women may suffer from post-wedding blues and offers some tips on how to cope.

Femail has some snippets on real life post wedding blues stories along with some expert advice.

Ask April has an advice piece but my goodness that’s a morbid picture.

Bride Diva 101 - A History Lesson

Posted by Diva on July 17th, 2008

One year ago I was getting ready to move, planning a wedding, and in heavy research mode.

Like most brides, reading about weddings was something that was exciting to me. I already visited wedding sites anyway, but now the advice actually applied to me…or so I thought.

I started to think that I’d like to read about something more interesting and spicy. There were all these articles about bridesmaids and bridesmaids dresses, but what if you don’t have any bridesmaids?

There was tons of advice on rules and etiquette but I couldn’t really find anything that told me some real advice without sugar coating it. Also I was tired of being told that I HAD to have certain things or I might as well not have a wedding.

Besides, I have an interesting sense of humor and there are a lot of things that are funny about weddings but people take them so seriously.

I just wanted to lighten up a bit.

And thus, one year ago, Bride Diva was born.

Happy Birthday, and here’s to many more.

Quick Guide To Unique Bridal Gifts

Posted by Diva on July 16th, 2008

I know this should come as no surprise but I love to do things differently than most people. There’s something about adding a little unique flair that puts a smile on my face.

As I’ve mentioned before, I didn’t have a bridal party, but if I would have their gifts I bought would have been wonderfully unique.

Perhaps it’s because I’m hungry and I would love to have a grilled hotdog right now, but this personalized barbeque kit would make a really good groomsmen gift in my opinion.

I think it’s something different and useful…unless the person lives in an apartment. Then in that case I’d have to say that this embrodiered cooler chair is my #2 pick.

For the ladies my top pick is the Reversable Shoulder Bag because what lady doesn’t need a travel bag?

I’m also a fan of the Butterfly Business Card case, but I admit that I have a slight obsession with business cards.

The items, along with a selection of wedding favors and other bridal party gifts can be found at American Bridal.
