Browsing in Weddings in the News

Of all the things to think about before you decide to get married, who would have thought that running a background check might be something you want to consider.

A con man was sentenced to 18 months in jail and ordered to repay nearly $170,000 after scamming his fiancées family. Here’s the sticky thing, I don’t know where fiancées is plural or possessive because there were multiple women involved.

It appears to be one fiancée and a few lovers.

Apparently he pretended to be some big shot with big connections and promised people great deals on trips in exchange for their financial information. In some cases he said that the people wouldn’t be charged, he just needed the credit card information to secure flights.

This is very wedding relevant as this man also spent the $17,000 that was meant for his wedding. Two weeks before the wedding, which was to be in 2003, the brides family got a call from the fake grooms mother. She said that she never received and invitation and told them that the wedding was probably a farce.

Gee whiz, you have to be low down and dirty for your own mother to know and admit you are running scams.

My question is, do you think that people should run background checks on people they date and hope to marry, or is trusting intuition enough?

Is listening carefully, trusting intuition, and connecting the dots enough? Or are people way too sneaky for that?

Imagine walking down the street one evening and seeing a bride, in her full wedding attire, running down the street and chasing after a drunk man.

Yes, this actually happened.

No, the drunk man wasn’t her husband.

In Auckland New Zealand a bride and groom just left their reception. They were rear ended by a drunk driver. When they got out of the car to talk, the driver tried to drive away so superbride reached in the car and grabbed his keys.

Talk about being brave.

Next the guy walked off. The bride was on the phone with the cops so they said follow him and when she did, he started running…and so did she!

Man that must have been a sight! But why was she running and not her husband? Wedding dresses are no joke, I could barely walk in mine, let alone run.

If you are a 40 year old man and you marry an 11 year old are you considered a pedophile? Or do you get a pass depending on what country you are from?

I’m just asking…

“US photographer Stephanie Sinclair is the winner of this year’s ‘Photo of the Year’ competition presented by the German National Committee for UNICEF. Ms. Sinclair’s photo shows a wedding couple in Afghanistan. The groom, Mohammed, is 40 years old and the bride, Ghulam, is still a child; she has just turned 11.”[Source]

I’m sure you’ve heard that a tiger got loose in the San Francisco Zoo on Christmas killing one and injuring two others. Since then the zoo has been closed.

Turns out that a couple scheduled a reception to be held in the zoo. I’d think they were out of luck, but some smart person (and I seriously mean that) decided to allow them to have their reception anyway…but the guests couldn’t roam the zoo, they had to stay near the entrance. [Source]

Now that’s how you handle a situation, you improvise. You don’t leave a bride crying and guests stranded with wasted trips. Yup, Thomas Worldwide I’m talking to you.

Sure it’s not exactly what they planned, but they didn’t have to throw all their hard work down the drain.
