Q: I have a friend who gets engaged all of the time. Maybe I am exaggerating but she’s been engaged 3 times in the past 3 years. It’s her business on why she keeps planning and canceling weddings but now that she’s engaged again am I supposed to be excited for her? I’ve spent time and money that was wasted because of her flip flopping. So when she called me to tell me about this newest engagement I didn’t know how to react. She’s so happy- I don’t care. What should I do?

A: Congratulations is always the proper first response no matter how you feel about the issue. Once you get that out of the way how you should proceed depends on what is asked of you.

If she doesn’t ask anything then all you can really do is sit back and see what happens. But if she starts asking you to help her plan the wedding, buy a bridesmaid dress, and other things then you are well within your rights to say that you don’t feel comfortable doing that and explain why.
