Frugal Wedding Ideas

Posted by Diva on January 29th, 2009

I don’t mind using the word cheap but sometimes people get the wrong idea. There is a big difference between being cheap and being frugal. So let’s just call these ideas frugal, not cheap.

First, let’s start with what we have already covered.

Wedding in a Recession

I Can’t Afford to Get Married

Wedding Industry Crap

Now let’s get to the juice.

  • If you have royal ideas on a paupers budget, just stop it. Spend your money on what matters most- the necessities. (Here’s a clue- releasing doves, $7,000 invites, renting 12 limos, and spending $10,000 on flowers are not necessities. Think- venue, marriage license, clergy, dress, invitations)
  • Consider renting your dress or borrowing from a friend. I know, everybody wants their own. But guess what, my dress is sitting in a box right now and has been for over a year. Sometimes I look at it and wonder how much money I would have if I would have invested the cost of the dress.
  • Shop for bargains; duh.
  • Consider DIY on some things. Food (with help from relatives, invitations, favors (if you must waste money on something) )

Good luck future brides and may you spend more time planning your marriage than you do your wedding!

Okay, it happened to me. I opened a wedding magazine, was over-powered by estrogen, and became a bridezilla. BUT after I said “I do” I realized — we could have gotten married in my backyard or at the justice of the peace and it would have been a-ok. The only necessity is the groom (or the bride, if that’s your thaing).

Want to know the best way to save money? Cut the guest list. You’ll save a bundle, and you’ll be surrounded by the people who really matter to you. Not co-workers you’d never invite to your house. Or cousins you haven’t seen in five years. Or old chums who haven’t called in over a year.
Re: the dress. I sold my dress after the wedding and re-couped a few hundred bucks.

Almost everyone expect to use the lowest price with highest-level goods and service. So do i. After struggling with the dream, some give it up and quickly find another way to get what they need or not they want;some insist on it and get nothing or can not be successful. Frugal but not cheap idea is not only suitable for wedding also life.
Nice post!
