But I Don’t Want To Be a Bridesmaid

She’s Pregnant, Can I Tell Her To Go Away?

Posted by Diva on August 7th, 2008

Q: My maid of honor is pregnant. Ya for her but now she’s going to be as big as a house for my wedding. I haven’t picked out the dresses yet but still. This is my best friend should I just tell her to not worry about being in the wedding?

A: Are you serious? As much as I would like to scold you for writing this ridiculously selfish email; I will try to refrain.

If you were worried about her health, or stressing her out when she should be relaxing that would be one thing. But I suspect you are worried about coordinating dresses and photographs.

I don’t know what to say, except that I don’t think those reasons are valid. If that is truly your best friend, you should want her to be a part of it and you shouldn’t discriminate just because she’s pregnant. So what if she’s big; it will make for great memories years down the line. How nice it would be to sit with your friend and her child and look back on the photos of when she was carrying.

In my opinion you can either choose to have the great memories; or you can make it ugly by telling her you don’t want her in the wedding. But don’t think that you get a “rude pass” because you don’t.

You just have to pick what’s most important to you; dresses or a life long friendship.

In many cultures, a pregnat bridesmaid is seen as a good luck symbol and a sign of fertility for your marriage.

And with a pregnant bridesmaid, you’ll never worry that she’s slimmer than ou either!

There are lots of lovely maternity bridesmaid dresses today - try http://www.tiffanyrose.com for some funky styles

I agree you can’t tell her to go away. Why not strap on a maternity bump and pretend to be pregnant yourself! :-)
