Fears of Being Jilted at the Alter
I don’t want to infuse paranoia in anyone, but as the wedding ceremony grew closer I had thoughts in my mind of being jilted at the alter.
It was a completely and utterly ridiculous thought; but I think that all the movies and Bridezilla reality shows put that thought in my mind. “But what if….”
No one wants to be embarrassed and I think that’s one of the most embarrassing things in the world.
I never shared these thoughts with anyone, but I did make use of my cell phone to give me a little peace of mind.
Me: Hi…where are you?
Him: On my way to the location
Me: Oh, when will you be there?
Him: In a few minutes.
Me: Ok, bye.
Later on as I was about 30 minutes away from the location I called again.
Me: Hi…are you there?
Him: Yes
Me: Oh, ok, thanks. Bye.
Actually these calls were very unnecessary as he left me a wonderfully sweet message while I was getting my hair fixed up so I had no reason to be so paranoid. Besides since we took the time to plan our marriage as well as a wedding I knew that he was ready, he didn’t feel rushed, and he was as excited as I was. Still, I do have a tendency to be overly cautious.
As for all of you potential jilters…..
If you are having fears about getting married, don’t be a punk, don’t be a coward. Speak up when you first have concerns. Don’t wait until the wedding is planned, the bride is dressed, and the guests are sitting down to pull a shady move.
And if you do, at least have the respect to tell the person to their face; don’t just send a note and go on about your life.
If you are afraid of getting jilted….
I hate to be a tape recorder but if you take the time to plan your marriage together, you’ll probably be clued in as to whether the person is going to stick around or not. But if your head is stuck in flowers, dresses, and chicken or beef…you might want to take a minute to make sure you won’t be enjoying that lovely decorated room with great food by yourself.
P.S. Good Morning America has a real life jilted story on their website.
