Newbies Guide To Wedding Websites
Yes, I’m a nerd and I’ll use any occasion to start a new website, so of course I had one for my wedding. I’m a do-it-yourself type of girl, but not everyone is so here’s a quick little guide to getting your own wedding website.
STEP 1) Register a domain name. This is not necessary but I think it’s the best thing to do because you want your site to be memorable. If you use a free service then you’ll have this long web address that no one will remember. Plus, you might find that having a domain name for your family comes in handy as your family grows. There are wedding services that offer this service, however I recommend you do it yourself at Godaddy. That way you’ll always have the domain under your control. Yes, you’ll have to pay a small yearly fee if you want to keep the domain.
STEP 2) Decide if how involved you want to be. You can either design your own website, or use a service.
If you decide to design your own website you’ll need web hosting (don’t use free hosting, it’s tacky), a web template, and HTML skills. If your HTML skills are excellent then you might not even need a web template. However if you want to go the do it yourself route, download NVU which is a handy little What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get editor, little HTML knowledge is required.
Nah, you don’t want to do that. That’s fine. Sign up for a wedding website service and they’ll do all the work for you (including hosting). All you have to do is plug in your information. Even if you do this I still recommend you register your own domain name, and you do it separately from the service. You can always point your domain to any website you create.
STEP 3) Tell Everyone About Your Site
You have a domain, you have hosting or you are using a wedding website service, you have the site ready that either you designed or you used a template from a wedding site service. You are done! Enjoy and get on with planning the rest of your wedding.
