How Do You Handle People Who Invite Themselves To Your Wedding?
So…Does That Mean I Can’t Bring a Date?

Don’t Forget The Ownership Papers!

Posted by Diva on September 14th, 2007

I’ve always been amazed when I hear these (rare) stories of people who have these lavish weddings and then they realize the marriage isn’t legal because they forgot the marriage license, or they made a mistake with the paperwork, or they didn’t know there was a waiting period, etc.

That wasn’t going to be me so I made sure I had my to-do list together. Getting the marriage license was on the top of the list. I read the rules for getting a marriage license in my state and I called to confirm. The problem was that in while doing all this, I moved out of state, and that made things more difficult because I totally forgot about it.

“What are we going to do about the marriage license?” , he asked me.

“Oh, crap it slipped my mind,” I responded.

I was waiting for a certain date because the license is only valid for about 30 days so we couldn’t do it too early. That date had passed so I printed the affidavit, we went to a notary, and mailed it off. I hope it doesn’t take that long to process it. We have 23 days left. There’s a 3 day waiting period. That should be enough time for them to get the license to us…right?
