A different take on wedding dresses is that it should be destroyed, essentially signifying that the wedding dress will never be worn again, the bride has found her price charming, and the destruction of the dress signifies her love and commitment to her husband. As a wedding photographer we have photographed "trash the dress" sessions where women have burned, cut up, or drowned their dresses. Makes for amazing pictures =)

I like the idea of donating! I was not that smart and just lost it when we were moving out from our old house.I completely agree that expensive wedding dress is a waste.

[...] I started looking for dresses at non-wedding places like JCPenney, Target, and Jessica McClintock. Yes, Target sells wedding dresses. All I needed was a white dress, right? Besides, what are you supposed to do with a wedding dress after the wedding? [...]

One of these days I'm going to have a girly tea party and everyone is going to have to wear an old bridesmaids or wedding dress that has been collecting dust in their closet. I think that will be fantastic. :) But donating the dress is a great idea, a lot of place require you have the dress cleaned first though - just FYI. There is also the option of selling the dress, maybe on ebay. Try to recoup a little of your expenses, you know?

You can turn your gown in to a formal dress that can be worn again. I plan to make turn my dress in to a corset top an A-line skirt...and save some of the extra fabric. Hope this helps...and love your site!

You can donate your dress to a non profit that cleans it up, reslls it, and gives all profits to breast cancer research. You get a write off and GREAT KARMA. I used them a couple years ago, makingmemories.org
